What does Rekha have that I don’t?: When Shabana Azmi asked Mira Nair this question, the director herself narrated the story

Shabana Azmi has worked with many big filmmakers in her brilliant film career. One of them is Indian American filmmaker Mira Nair with whom she worked in ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’. Shabana’s role in this film was very small, due to which she is still waiting for when Mira will work with her again. Recently, in an interview, Shabana narrated an interesting story related to this. Actually, Shabana is currently participating in the New York Indian Film Festival. Mira Nair was also present here. Shabana said, ‘I have a complaint with Mira’ When Shabana was asked at the event that with which great directors she has worked in her five decade long career, she said, ‘I have a complaint with a director, I have been talking to him for years and always tell him that we should do a film, but he just gives me a small role and that director is sitting next to me right now.’ When Shabana asked- ‘What is there in Rekha that I don’t have?’ After this, Mira Nair could not stop laughing and while sharing an anecdote related to Shabana, she said, once I met Shabana in a five star hotel. She followed me to the washroom and asked me, ‘What is there in Rekha that I don’t have?’ After this, Mira told Shabana that she knows that her role in ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ was very small but she will definitely make a film with her in the future. Actually, Mira Nair had made the film ‘Kamasutra: A Tale of Love’ with Rekha. This film was made in 1996 but was not released due to being banned in India.
