A person with direct knowledge of the deal confirmed on Friday that Payton would depart the NBA champion #GoldenStateWarriors to join a backcourt alongside #DamianLillard and lottery pick Shaedon Sharpe, selected with the seventh overall pick in last Thursday’s draft.
When the season ended, longtime journeyman Payton acknowledged he couldn’t wait to finally get his payday in free agency. A G Leaguer for so long, Payton was cut before the season began and he was ready to take a video job with the organization before being re-signed.

The two-time US Olympic basketball gold medalist Brittney Griner went on trial at a court near Moscow on Friday, on drug smuggling charges which can be punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Griner, 31, a Phoenix Mercury player who plays in Russia during the WNBA’s off season, was arrested February 17 at a Moscow airport, a week before Russia invaded Ukraine.
Griner’s supporters and US officials say she is wrongfully detained and have called for her release as fears mount that she is being used as a political pawn amid rising tensions between Russia and the US.

Giant African land #snails have been found in the New Port Richey area of Pasco County, and they’re known to carry a meningitis-causing parasite called rat lungworm.
#Meningitis refers to the swelling of the membranes that protect the brain and spinal cord, and it can be deadly.
Late last month, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) confirmed the presence of giant African land snails, which it describes as “one of the most damaging snails in the world.”
The FDACS has set up a quarantine zone and eradication program to deal with the threat.
“These snails could be devastating to #Florida agriculture and natural areas as they cause extensive damage to tropical and subtropical environments,” explained a notice on the FDACS website, adding that the pests consume more than 500 varieties of plants.
