All eyes are on the Gulf of Mexico this week where now major Hurricane Helene churns and continues to strengthen.
The 13WMAZ Weather Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert for all day today and into tomorrow morning, as outer bands of rain will create a flood risk throughout today and hurricane force conditions will arrive as Helene tracks through central Georgia overnight into tomorrow morning. Here’s what you need to know:
However, as we move through the evening and Helene approaches landfall in Florida as a Category 4 storm, that’s when the heaviest rain and fastest winds will approach closer to the eye of Helene. The center of the storm will move over central Georgia during the overnight hours into Friday and continue into early Friday morning. Southern counties can expect the heavy rain bands and gustiest winds close to the center of circulation to move in around midnight tonight. The storm will move very fast through central Georgia, and hopefully get out by the 8-9 a.m. hours on Friday.
