On being compared to daddy Shaan, son Mahi said: I want to create my own identity, that’s why I practice every day

Singer Shaan’s son Mahi is following in his father’s footsteps and making his career in singing. After the single album ‘Sorry’, Mahi’s second single album ‘Jadugri’ has been released on Saregama. Recently, during a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Mahi told that people will definitely compare his singing with that of his father Shaan. That is why he practices every day so that he can create his own unique identity. During the conversation, Mahi told that he knew since childhood that he wanted to make a career in singing. Mahi said- In childhood, I used to perform on stage with my father. The happiness I used to get in a 10-minute performance cannot be expressed in words. I had decided then that I have to become a singer. ‘Tanha Dil’ is Shaan’s iconic album. Mahi says, ‘Although many of dad’s songs are my favorites, but ‘Tanha Dil’ is very close to my heart.’ When asked which song did she sing during her first stage performance with Daddy Shaan? Mahi said- I did my first stage performance with my brother, in which I sang Kishore Kumar’s song ‘Aa chal ke tujhe main lekar chalun, door gagan ki chaav mein’. Daddy taught me this song. The interesting story behind this song is that this song was first taught by Kishore Da to his son Amit Kumar. I often perform on stage with Daddy and keep singing his songs. Talking about her Daddy Shaan, Mahi said that she never realized that her Daddy is a great singer. She said- Daddy was just a dad for us at home. He kept stardom far away from home. When I started meeting people for work, then I came to know from people how great a singer Daddy is. After the single album ‘Sorry’, Mahi’s second single album ‘Jadugri’ has been released recently on Saregama. Mahi says, ‘Both these albums are very close to my heart. This is just the beginning. ‘Jadugri’ has been produced by my elder brother Soham. The biggest thing for me is that this film has been promoted by Arijit Singh. This is a big achievement for me. Mahi’s voice is quite similar to Shaan’s. It is natural for Mahi to be compared to his daddy Shaan. Mahi said- I know that people will compare me with daddy. That’s why I practice every day so that I can have a different identity. I work on my voice and songs. My goal is to improve myself. As far as comparison with daddy is concerned, people will listen to my songs on this pretext. This is good for me in a way. But I have created my own identity. When you come from such a family, where there is already an established singer, then the challenge in establishing yourself increases. You do get support from the family, but you have to create your own identity on your own strength.
