NEET UG Counselling 2024 delayed: Official schedule awaited amid Centre’s affidavit in SC opposing cancellation of NEET UG 2024


NEET UG Counselling 2024: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is expected to begin the counselling process for All India Quota (AIQ) undergraduate medical seats soon. An official notification detailing the counselling schedule is expected to be released shortly on the MCC‘s official website at mcc.nic.in.

NEET UG Counselling 2024 delayed?
According to a previous TOI report, the MCC, which allocates MBBS, BDS, and BSc Nursing seats, was expected to release the official NEET UG 2024 counselling schedule by today, July 6th.However, there has been no update on the MCC’s official website so far, prompting candidates and stakeholders to wonder when the NEET UG Counselling 2024 will commence.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) had previously informed the Supreme Court that the process would begin on July 6th. The detailed notification and schedule are eagerly awaited by lakhs of candidates. The NTA had also informed that the NEET re-test would be held on June 23, with results likely to be declared by June 30 to facilitate the counselling process starting today, on July 6. The exam was conducted and the results announced as per this schedule.
What is the required eligibility for NEET UG Counselling 2024?
To be eligible for NEET UG 2024 counselling, candidates must have qualified in the NEET UG 2024 exam and must also secure a minimum percentile score. The eligible score will be decided according to the reservation provided to students under the general, SC, ST, and OBC categories. Eligibility will also include the marks scored in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects in Class XII.
Centre Opposes Scrapping Entire NEET-UG 2024 Exam, Files Affidavit with the Supreme Court
On Friday, the Centre filed an affidavit with the Supreme Court, arguing against scrapping the entire NEET UG 2024 examination held on May 5th this year, due to the absence of proof of any ‘large-scale’ breach of confidentiality. The affidavit states that invalidating the exam would “seriously jeopardise” the efforts of lakhs of honest candidates who appeared in the exam.
In its affidavit, the Centre emphasised its commitment to conducting all competitive examinations in a fair and transparent manner. “The Union of India duly appreciates that the confidentiality of the question papers is the utmost priority in any examination and that if, due to some criminality at the behest of some criminal elements, the confidentiality has been breached, the Union of India submits that the said person must be dealt with sternly and with the full force of law to ensure that they are punished,” the affidavit reads.
The government also stressed the need to balance competing rights, mentioning the importance of protecting the interests of the majority of students who did not engage in unfair practices. “Scrapping the exam in entirety would seriously jeopardise the lakhs of honest candidates who attempted the question paper in 2024,” the Centre added.
The Centre has further stated that the CBI has been tasked with investigating the full range of allegations regarding alleged irregularities, including conspiracy, cheating, impersonation, and breach of trust.
NEET UG Counselling 2024: Supreme Court to hear pleas on July 8
The Supreme Court is set to hear a series of pleas on July 8, including those alleging irregularities in the May 5 examination and requesting that it be conducted again. On June 13, the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) informed the court that they had cancelled the grace marks awarded to 1,563 candidates. These candidates were given the choice to either retake the test or forgo the compensatory marks given for the loss of time.
As the counselling process for NEET UG 2024 approaches, students are advised to stay updated through the official MCC website for the latest notifications and schedules.
