Movie Review- Kalki: Boring first half and loose screenplay saved by Hollywood level VFX; Big B and Prabhas’ action sequences are awesome

Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone starrer film Kalki 2898 AD has been released. The length of this science fiction mythodrama film is 3 hours. Dainik Bhaskar has given the film a rating of 3.5 stars out of 5. What is the story of the film? The film begins with the backdrop of Mahabharata. On the battlefield, Shri Krishna curses Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan) to never die. However, with this curse, he also gives Ashwatthama a chance to repent. Shri Krishna tells Ashwatthama that after thousands of years, when there will be only evil in every corner of the world, when atrocities on people will start increasing, then an incarnation of God named Kalki will be born. However, his birth will not be easy. The demonic powers will try their best to ensure that he does not come to earth. In this situation, Ashwatthama will get an opportunity to wash away his sins by protecting God. Now from here the story moves forward 6 thousand years later and reaches the last city of the world, Kashi. There is a different empire named ‘Complex’ inside this city. Its ruler Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan) does a different kind of experiment to make himself all-powerful. For this, he injects the serum coming out of the womb of girls inside himself. Through this, he has ruined the lives of many girls in his lab. After many experiments, a girl Sumati (Deepika Padukone) from his lab becomes pregnant. As soon as Sumati becomes pregnant, Ashwatthama sitting far away realizes that God is now going to enter the world in the form of that child. Sumati runs away from there, on the way, Ashwatthama meets her for protection. On the other hand, Bhairava (Prabhas), a carefree money-hungry person, thinks of entering Yaskin’s complex by any means. For this, he keeps trying to impress the bad people of the complex. He assures the people of the complex that he will find Sumati. Then there is a fierce fight between Bhairava and Ashwatthama for Sumati. However, something happens in between that Bhairava and Ashwatthama start fighting together for the safety of Sumati. Is there any connection between Bhairava and Ashwatthama? To know this, you will have to watch the film. How is the acting of the star cast? Although you will go to watch it as Prabhas’ film, but when you leave the theatre, you will talk more about Amitabh Bachchan. Even at the age of 81, he has done a wonderful job. Flexibility is visible in his body. Prabhas’ action sequence is also strong. Especially in the last 20 minutes, he has stolen the entire limelight. In the first half, Prabhas’s slightly different and fun-filled style is seen. Deepika Padukone does not disappoint in whatever screen time she has got. Disha Patani also has a small role in the film, which is not that impactful. The screen time of Kamal Haasan, who plays the villain, has also been kept less. His right hand man Shashvat Chatterjee has also done justice to his role. Half a dozen big actors and film makers have done cameos in this film, which is the most surprising part of the film. How is the direction of the film? Nag Ashwin has directed the film. The film is boring in the first half. Many scenes may seem stretched. The placement of the songs is also not good. The screenplay looks quite loose, it is not understood where the links are being connected. The film could have been easily reduced by half an hour. The real start of the film takes place in the second half. The larger than life screen presence of the stars, high octane action sequences, VFX and 3D experience is amazing. The action sequences between Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan are amazing. How is the music of the film? We have been seeing for the last several years that the background music of big South films is quite impressive. The music of Prabhas’s last released film Salaar was also good. Kalki lagged behind in this matter. The background music is okay, but the songs are not good at all. Final verdict of the film, should you watch it or not? This is a Hollywood level film, no doubt about it. If money has been invested in the film, it shows on the screen. The cinematography, visual and sound effects deserve praise. Such films are worth watching only in theatres. If you want to experience something larger than life on screen, then you can definitely go for this film. Since the first half is weak, you may have to be a little patient.
