An armed rebel group in Congo generates around $300,000 a month in revenue through its control of a mining area in the east of the country, the UN Security Council heard. In April, the M23 a rebel group with alleged links to Rwanda seized the Rubaya mining area in eastern Congo, which holds deposits of a key mineral used in the production of smartphones and computers.

Hezbollah has denied that Israeli troops have entered Lebanon but says its fighters are ready for a “direct confrontation” if they cross the border. In its first statement since Israel announced the start of ground operations, Hezbollah spokesman Mohammed Afifi said reports that Israeli forces had entered Lebanon were “false claims”. He said Hezbollah fighters are ready “to have direct confrontation with enemy forces that dare to or try to enter Lebanon to inflict casualties among them”.

The Andhra Pradesh government has notified a new liquor policy, allowing private retailers to sell spirits on the lines of Haryana and others with the state expecting to rake in Rs 5,500 crore revenue. The Israeli military on Tuesday ordered the evacuation of nearly two dozen Lebanese border communities. The orders came hours after Israel sent ground forces into southern Lebanon in what it described as a limited incursion against the Hezbollah militant group. The evacuation order, posted by the Israeli military’s Arabic spokesman on the social media platform X, specified around two dozen communities in southern Lebanon and ordered people to evacuate north of the Awali River, some 60 kilometers (36 miles) from the border.

Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin on Tuesday became the first woman officer to take over as the director general of the Armed Forces Medical Services, the defence ministry said. The DGAFMS is directly responsible to the Ministry of Defence for overall medical policy matters which relate to the armed forces.

Before assuming the appointment of the 46th DGAFMS, the Flag Officer held the coveted appointments of DG Medical Services (Navy), DG Medical Services (Air) and Director and Commandant of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, the ministry said in a statement.
