Kangana Ranaut will not take a break from films for politics: Will promote ‘Emergency’ after the Parliament session, may soon announce her next film too
Actress and MP Kangana Ranaut has taken oath as a Lok Sabha member. In an old interview, Kangana had said that if she wins the election, she will leave the film industry, although she will continue her film career. Her close ones have confirmed this. They have given important information related to Kangana’s upcoming release ‘Emergency’. The film was to be released along with ‘Chandu Champion’ but due to election engagements, the film could not be released on that date. However, preparations are underway to release the film soon. Sources close to Kangana said, ‘Once the Parliament session is over, the picture will be clear on the film release. The effort was to release the film on June 25 itself, because the Emergency was imposed on the same date in 1975. However, that date was also postponed. Now it will be released on September 6. Kangana will continue her film journey along with her first innings in the field of politics. The announcement on the next film can come very soon. It is being said that Kangana also has films like Anand L Rai’s ‘Tanu Weds Manu 3’ and Alaukik Desai’s mythological drama ‘Sita- The Incarnation’. There is no update on these in the near future. A perfect balance has been maintained between research work and commercial value – Writer Jayant Associate writer of the film Emergency Jayant Sinha says, ‘There is a lot of research work in the film, but this does not mean that its commercial value has been kept aside. A perfect balance has been achieved between both aspects. People went to many historically important places related to Indira Gandhi for research, like Indira Gandhi Memorial, then the library of Lucknow Assembly. The proceedings of the then Lok Sabha are kept there in book form. We have taken all the research from there on what were the debates in the Lok Sabha from 1975 to 77 and then till the period when the Emergency was imposed.’ Vasant Sathe and Atal ji’s debates were explored Jayant further says, ‘The great leaders of that era were Vasant Sathe and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Whatever debates they had with each other, we looked into it. We extracted its gist and matched it with facts. I had personal contact with Brajesh Pathak ji, who was the Speaker of Lucknow Assembly and then he allowed me to go to Lucknow Library, because no one is allowed to go there, it is a government library. So we extracted facts from there and matched the details and then this film was made. The first research of the film was limited to 500 pages. In the words of Jayant, ‘The first draft was of 130 pages, which we reduced to 100 pages, but when you write a biopic and do such things, it has nothing to do with the final draft. Like your 2-hour film or 1.5-hour film will be made from 100 pages, in that you have to look at all the real things. Our research document was more than 500 pages and I have also written a book on it, ‘Daughter of India’. The research took one and a half years, the gist was extracted after reading many books. According to Jayant, ‘It took us one and a half years for the research. It means our proper research went on for one and a half to two years. The first biography of Indira ji was written by Katherine Frank. The name of the book was ‘Indira- The Life of India Nehru Gandhi’. It was a very thick book. In general language, we had to read the entire book and extract the gist of it. Then read Kumi Kapoor’s book ‘The Emergency: A Personal History’, after this Kuldeep Nair wrote the book ‘Emergency Ki Inside Story’. Then what Khushwant Singh had written. At the same time, the writers who were anti-emergency and those who were pro-emergency also had to be read. The aspect of German writer and Pupul Jayakar will also be seen in the film. Katherine Frank was a German writer and she had written a book in that era. Apart from her, Pupul Jayakar had also written a book, she was Indira ji’s personal assistant. If we say, she was Indira ji’s close friend, she also has a book. The official rights that we had were of Kumi Kapoor’s book. Apart from this, there were many books. The DOP of the film was Tetsuo Nagata. He is from Japan, who also did Kangana’s ‘Dhaakad’. The action in the film is by Nick Powell. He is from Hollywood. Ritesh Shah is also a writer on the film, he wrote the first draft. According to Jayant, ‘Its first draft was written by Ritesh Shah. When I was on board in ‘Manikarnika’, I was an associate writer. It also has my screenplay and dialogues. The story is of Kangana ma’am and Ritesh Shah and I are also in the screenplay and dialogues. Jayant claims that Kangana ji has become an MP, so critics must be thinking that this is a propaganda to target, but it is not so at all. Our film was announced in 2021 and she got the ticket in 2024. So we did not know then. Such a question arises whether this is an anti-Indira film or an anti-Congress film. So no one can put their career at stake to show someone as anti. Kangana will do films in future also.
