Jerry Citro was born in Hoboken. He graduated from Hoboken High School in 1970, where his basketball playing earned him a scholarship to the University of New Hampshire. In his freshman year, he almost lost his right leg in a tragic car accident, and his life changed. He got sober in 1986. After a successful career in real estate, he sought a way to return to his first love, basketball. He applied to Montclair State to become a coach. He also ended up playing again and, at 39, became the oldest player to ever play NCAA sanctioned basketball. His story went national, and was reported on CNN, Good Morning America, World News Tonight and CBS Sports. And now we’ll get to hear it on Hoboken Talks, with first time host Stu Chirichella as interviewer!
