IP University Bags ‘Rising Star’ Award in QS World Rankings


NEW DELHI: Delhi’s Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IP University) has achieved a significant milestone by receiving the prestigious ‘Rising Star’ award from the QS World Ranking. This accolade recognises the university’s remarkable improvement among Indian institutions over the past 12 months.
Mr. Ben Sowter, Senior Vice President of QS, presented the award to IP University at the QS EduData Summit 2024 in Washington D.C.The announcement was made during the release of the QS World University Rankings 2025 on June 4, 2024.
Impressive Climb in Rankings
IP University made its debut in the QS rankings last year, entering at the 1401+ position. This year, the university has made an impressive leap to the 1001-1200 category, marking the highest jump among Indian institutions in the QS Rankings 2025. Notably, IP University is the only university under the Government of NCT of Delhi included in this year’s rankings.
Recognition and Congratulatory Messages
Shri Vinay Kumar Saxena, Chancellor of the University and Lt. Governor of Delhi, congratulated Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma, along with the faculty, staff, and students, for this remarkable achievement. The recognition underscores the university’s commitment to excellence in education and research.
Achievements Highlighted
Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma highlighted that only 46 Indian universities were included in the QS rankings this year. He noted that IP University has been ranked among the top 500 global institutions for citations per faculty. In the previous edition, the university surpassed 6.5% of the globally ranked institutions, and this year, it has jumped to surpass 33.4%.
Academic and Employer Reputation
The university has shown significant improvement in academic and employer reputation, now listed at the 601+ level in the QS rankings 2025. This progress reflects the growing recognition of IP University’s academic standards and the employability of its graduates.
Future Vision
Looking ahead, Prof. Verma outlined his vision for expanding the university’s global footprint. Efforts will be made to attract more international faculty and students, further enhancing its global presence. He also mentioned that IP University is one of the few universities in India to receive an A++ rating from the NAAC, complementing its high rank in the QS rankings.
