IGNOU Launches 13 New Academic Programmes, Honours Founding VC


NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched 13 new programmes across diverse disciplines. Unveiled during the 29th Prof. G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture, these courses highlight IGNOU’s commitment to providing accessible and relevant education, while also honouring the university’s founding Vice-Chancellor.
The newly launched programmes cover a wide spectrum.Business-oriented individuals can pursue specialised MBAs in Construction Management, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Agribusiness Management, and Healthcare & Hospital Management, addressing the evolving needs of these dynamic sectors.
For those interested in mental health and disaster preparedness, IGNOU now offers PG Diplomas in Rehabilitation Psychology and Disaster Risk Reduction & Management. Additionally, a new MA in Geeta Studies explores the profound philosophical and spiritual teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.
Inclusivity in education is a key focus with the introduction of certificate programmes in Early Childhood Special Education. These cater to educators working with children having visual impairments, hearing impairments, and intellectual disabilities. Furthermore, a new M.Sc. in Home Science – Community Development and Extension Management expands IGNOU’s offerings in Home Science.

PG Diploma in Rehabilitation Psychology Provides training in psychological rehabilitation techniques and therapy methods.
PG Diploma in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Focuses on disaster management strategies, risk assessment, and mitigation techniques.
MA in Geeta Studies Explores philosophical and spiritual teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.
Certificate in Early Childhood Special Education – Visual Impairment Educates on teaching methods for children with visual impairments.

Honouring a Legacy: The Prof. G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture
The Prof. G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture serves as the platform for launching these programmes annually. This year’s lecture featured esteemed guests, including Prof. Kapil Kapoor, a renowned linguist, who delivered an insightful discourse on the evolution of knowledge systems. Prof. Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, commended Prof. Reddy’s transformative leadership in Open and Distance Learning (ODL).
Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU, delivered the Presidential Address, expressing gratitude for the distinguished speakers and highlighting Prof. Reddy’s pivotal role in shaping IGNOU’s educational mission. He underscored IGNOU’s innovations in online teaching and regional language video lectures to enhance accessibility and inclusivity.
