Ian strengthened into a Category 3 hurricane on Tuesday while hitting parts of Cuba, and is now headed into the Gulf of Mexico towards Florida, according to The Weather Channel. The storm could make landfall near or south of the Tampa Bay area in the coming days as officials warn residents on the coast to leave before it makes landfall, CNN reports.
