Directors used to call Amitabh Bachchan a constipated face actor: Shekhar Suman reveals- On seeing him, producers used to say who allowed him to enter the set, throw him out
Bollywood’s Shahenshah Amitabh Bachchan may not need any introduction today, however, there was a time in the beginning of his career when people used to reject him by making fun of his height, looks and voice. Recently, Shekhar Suman has revealed during an interview that many directors used to call Amitabh Bachchan an actor with a constricted face. At the same time, there were some producers who did not like Amitabh coming on the set. Recently, during an interview given to Bollywood Hungama, Shekhar Suman talked about Amitabh Bachchan’s early days in the film industry. He has said, I know this because Shashi Kapoor told me. He had said that there are many producers here who do not work without Amitabh Bachchan today, but at one time he was the producer who used to say on seeing him, Oh my God, this constricted-faced actor has come again asking for work. Get him out of the set, who let him in. When he went to audition for the post of news reader in All India Radio, he was rejected due to his bad voice. What a big coincidence it is. Those people said that Amitabh Bachchan’s voice is not good. Some used to say that he is too tall. Amitabh Bachchan was labelled as a flop actor. Let us tell you that Amitabh Bachchan reached Kolkata from Allahabad (now Prayagraj) in 1963 in search of work. After working in a shipping company, he came to Mumbai to try his luck. When he auditioned for All India Radio, the famous voice of that era, Amin Sayani, turned him away saying that people would get scared on hearing his voice. After many days of hard work, Amitabh Bachchan got work in the 1969 film Saat Hindustani. He got 5 thousand rupees for this film of Khwaja Abbas. Despite coming into films, many of Amitabh’s initial films flopped, due to which he was labelled as a flop actor. After giving about 12 flop films, Amitabh Bachchan got stardom with the 1973 film Zanjeer. Talking about Shekhar Suman, recently the actor has appeared in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s series Hiramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The second season of the series is coming soon, which has been officially announced.
