Dalip Tahil narrated the story of ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’: said- ‘I played the role of 23-year-old Aamir’s father at the age of 33, the film was a game changer for me’

Veteran actor Dalip Tahil has talked about unconventional casting in Bollywood films. He told that when he got the role of Aamir Khan’s father in the 1988 blockbuster film ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’, he was between 32-33 years old. Despite this, Dalip had the courage to accept that role and his acting was also praised in it. Playing the role of father of ten years younger Aamir, Dalip Tahil said in a recent interview, ‘I was offered the role of a father for the first time in ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ and this film became a game changer for me. I am eight-ten years older than Aamir. At that time my age must have been around 32-33 years, so I did not think twice before accepting this role. The role was very good, so I immediately said yes, whereas other actors would have hesitated to do so because no one plays the role of a father at such a young age. When Nasir Hussain Sir (producer) asked me to do this role, I immediately agreed. Dalip also spoke about the fear of being typecast. In the interview, when Dalip Tahil was asked if he was afraid of being typecast after playing the role of a father at such a young age, he said, ‘I did not understand it at that time, but after this film, I started getting offers for many father’s roles, so I started fearing being typecast because this is a big problem with actors. If you get success in a role, then everyone starts expecting you to play similar characters, but I was lucky that I got a chance to do many different kinds of roles.’ The 1988 film ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ proved to be a blockbuster. Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla debuted as lead stars in the film directed by Mansoor Khan.
