CUET UG 2024: Exam Pattern, Marking Scheme, Subjects, Marks, and more


NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is gearing up for the first edition of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) 2024, scheduled to be conducted between May 15th and May 24th, 2024. This nationwide entrance exam will serve as a single-window gateway for admission to undergraduate programs offered by participating Central Universities (CUs), State Universities, deemed universities, and other Participating Institutions (PIs).
The application window for CUET UG 2024 opened earlier this year, and the admit cards are expected to be released soon.Results for CUET UG 2024 are anticipated by mid-June.
Here’s a breakdown of the key aspects of CUET UG 2024 to help you prepare effectively:
Exam Pattern
The CUET UG exam will be a computer-based test (CBT) conducted in a hybrid mode, offering flexibility to students in terms of choosing their preferred exam centers.
The exam will be divided into three sections:
Section 1: A Language test where candidates can choose from 13 Indian languages and a few foreign languages. Students will be required to attempt 40 out of 50 questions in the chosen language.
Section 2: Domain-specific Subjects – This section allows candidates to select up to six subjects relevant to their desired undergraduate program. Each subject will have 40-50 questions, and students need to attempt 35-40 questions.
Section 3: General Test – This section will be mandatory for all candidates and will assess general knowledge, numerical ability, logical reasoning, and analytical skills. It will comprise 50 questions, of which students need to attempt 40.
Marking Scheme
CUET UG 2024 follows a marking scheme with positive and negative marking. Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks, while 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect attempt.
Unattempted questions will not carry any penalty.
Subjects Offered
CUET UG will offer a wide range of subjects across various disciplines, including languages, humanities, social sciences, sciences, commerce, and business studies. The specific subjects offered will vary depending on the participating universities and their program requirements. It’s crucial to consult the official CUET UG prospectus and the websites of your desired universities for a comprehensive list of available subjects.
Marks and Number of Questions
The total marks for each section will be 200, with each question carrying 4 marks.
• Section 1 (Language) will have 50 questions, of which 40 need to be attempted.
• Section 2 (Domain-specific Subjects) will have 40-50 questions depending on the subject, and students need to attempt 35-40 questions.
• Section 3 (General Test) will have 50 questions, with 40 compulsory attempts.
