Casting couch was attempted with Shilpa Shinde: She said- When I asked for work, the producer used to ask- what can you do to become a heroine?
‘Controversy is always associated with me. The makers of ‘Bigg Boss’ also thought that my controversial personality would prove beneficial for them. They would get more and more content. However, in real life I am not quarrelsome but mature and composed. I have faced many ups and downs in life. At the beginning of my career, despite being talented, producers used to demand wrong things. Then despite being right, many associations boycotted me. It became difficult to put my point across even in front of the housemates. People think that I deliberately pretend. I was also tagged as a tantrum queen.’ This is what actress Shilpa Shinde has to say, who is seen as a contestant in ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi 14’ this year. Before this, she has done many shows like ‘Bigg Boss 11’, ‘Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain’, ‘Maika’, ‘Chidiya Ghar’. My friends also say that you act. In an interview given to Dainik Bhaskar, Shilpa Shinde says, ‘Controversy is always associated with me. When I did my first show ‘Amrapali’, I shot 25 episodes at that time and then had to leave it midway due to some personal reasons. Unfortunately, the trend of leaving the show midway continued till my last show ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’. This time I have decided that I will not leave ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ midway. Believe me, I do not do this intentionally. Not only the industry people but even my friends say that you act. During ‘Jhalak…’, I was really sick. I had high fever and that is why I left the show midway.’ Sometimes there is a rift with family members too. The actress further says, ‘Sometimes there is a rift with my family members too. Where the outside world blames you, the family members also start doubting you. They say why does this happen only with you? You are wrong. They say what will they answer to outsiders? However, I have learned to handle situations in a very mature way.’ Shilpa used to take her mother for meetings Shilpa started her career with South cinema. In the initial phase, there were attempts of casting couch with the actress. About this she says, ‘I remember, I used to take my mother for meetings. I realized that if I took my mother along, then I was just going around the office. People used to avoid talking to me. I understood why these people were not talking. Producers would ask – what can you do to become a heroine? Then I decided not to take my mother to the meeting. I wanted to see what the producers say. When I went, they said – ‘Hey, I could not talk much in front of your mother, so I used to talk about this and that. Tell me, what can you do to become a heroine? What can you give in return?’ In response, I assured her that I will work hard, do rehearsals, script readings, etc. I am even ready to work for less money. I cannot do anything more than this. In retort, she changed the topic and said the wrong thing in a roundabout way. She said – this is a common thing, everyone does it. I said that whoever does it, you should work with them. In response, she said – you go and struggle in the industry, you will not get work like this. I believed in myself and moved forward. Shilpa Shinde, who gained popularity from the role of Angoori Bhabhi in the TV serial ‘Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain’, left the show due to differences with producer Benafer Kohli. However, if Shilpa is to be believed, this show will always be special for her. She said, ‘Bhabhi Ji… has given me a lot. To be honest, this show has never ended for me and will never end. Even today people call me Angoori Bhabhi. Just like Kareena Kapoor Khan did many films but ‘Jab We Met’ is special, Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Khiladi’, similarly for Shilpa Shinde ‘Bhabhiji…’ will be special.’ When Shilpa was banned by CINTAA for 2 years In 2016, Shilpa was accused of being unprofessional. She does not coordinate with the makers. After these allegations, Shilpa was banned by CINTAA (Cine and TV Artist Association) for 2 years, due to which she did not get any work for two years. If Shilpa is to be believed, she was very disappointed at that time. She said, ‘There came a time when many associations turned against her. Some people do not know the truth. They react to one-sided things after listening to it. I was very disappointed at that time. But I handled this situation with maturity. Instead of walking in the herd, I decided to walk alone. In my case, I did not do anything wrong. Despite this, I was tagged as a tantrum queen. The makers of ‘Bigg Boss’ also thought that my controversial personality would prove beneficial for them. They would get more and more content. However, the audience saw my real nature. It was because of their love that I became the winner of that show. It is a matter of pride for me.’ Expressed gratitude to Govinda’s makeup artist During the conversation, Shilpa Shinde expressed gratitude to actor Govinda’s makeup artist. She said, ‘In 1998, Govinda’s makeup artist Ramesh Dada did a photoshoot of mine. At that time, many films used to be shot in Hyderabad. It was Ramesh Dada who told me about an offer from a South film. South producer Dasari Narayan Rao was launching his son. I got that film and after that I never had to look back. I will always be grateful to Dada.’ Shilpa’s father was deeply shocked by her father’s death Let us tell you, Shilpa’s father was a lawyer by profession. Initially, he was not happy with Shilpa’s decision to become an actor. To prove herself, he gave Shilpa a year and a half’s time. The actress proved herself in a short time. Her father passed away in 2013. During the conversation, Shilpa told that she was very close to her father. She was deeply shocked by her father’s death. That was a bad phase in her life.
