Boman Irani wanted to direct films: Now the dream has been fulfilled through ‘The Mehta Boys’; In childhood, mother used to say- go and watch cinema.

Boman Irani is directing a film for the first time. The name of this film is- The Mehta Boys. Boman has worked on the writing, direction and production of this film. The special thing is that along with Boman, it has also been co-written by Oscar winning screenwriter Alex Dinelaris. Boman Irani recently attended an event organized by Ladies Study Group (LSG) in Kolkata. Director Rajkumar Hirani was also present with him. This event was organized by Kolkata’s famous entrepreneur Bhavana Agarwal. Through her organization Ladies Study Group (LSG), work is done on the education and upliftment of women. Boman gave an interview to Dainik Bhaskar here. During the interview, he praised Bhavna Aggarwal’s initiative in support of women. Apart from this, Boman also talked about his upcoming film The Mehta Boys. Boman is happy to spend time with Rajkumar Hirani in Kolkata. The land of Bengal has a special connection with art and literature. You have come to Kolkata, the capital of Bengal, with Rajkumar Hirani. What will you say? Boman said, ‘I could not talk to Raju for a long time. I was busy with my film The Mehta Boys, while Raju was busy filming Donkey. When we got a chance to come together to Kolkata, we thought that we should discuss the things which have been pending for so long. I showed him my film Mehta Boys two-three days ago, but did not get much chance to talk about it. We thought that we would go to Kolkata and talk to each other a lot. Boman wanted to direct films since childhood, now his dream has been fulfilled. Boman always wanted to try his hand in direction. After working in the industry for so many years, he has got this opportunity. He said, ‘I have been acting all my life, but I always wanted to try my hand at direction too. This dream of mine is being fulfilled through The Mehta Boys. I believe that a person who has been acting for many years, it is not necessary that he has knowledge of writing or direction. For this one has to learn. I had a dream of making films since childhood, so I never stopped learning. Luckily I met Alex Dinelaris (Oscar Award winning screenwriter). I learned the qualities of writing from him. When he and I met he had not yet won an Oscar. When they won the Oscar, it seemed that the friendship would end, but the opposite happened. Our friendship became stronger. He helped me a lot in writing the script of Mehta Boys. Rajkumar Hirani takes years to make a film, the reason behind this is that Boman Irani said that film makers should pay a lot of attention to the script. It is not that if films are becoming hits, then keep making anything. He gave the example of Rajkumar Hirani here. Boman said, ‘Look at Raju. He takes two-three years to make a film, while all his films are hits. If he wanted, he would have made films one after the other, but he does not do so because the script takes more time. Mother used to say – go and watch movies. Boman said that if a child’s marks are not good, it does not mean that he does not know anything. Maybe he is interested in some other field. Boman said, ‘Sachin Tendulkar’s interest was in cricket, if he was made to do some other work then perhaps he would not have been able to do the best. I was never good at studies because I was not interested in it. Although I have always been fond of writing. I used to write drama scripts in school. Mother also supported me fully. She used to encourage me to watch films. She used to say that go and watch movies. She knew that I was more interested in cinema. If I am at this stage today, my mother has played a big role.
