Please join The Explorers Club and renowned photographer Peter Guttman on Monday, December 2nd for a fascinating look into his new landmark book, American Character: Surprising Portraits of an Unseen Nation, an engaging odyssey through all fifty states.
During a lifetime spent investigating landscapes and indigenous groups across 250 countries on all seven continents, photographer and adventurer Peter Guttman also conducted a decades-long sojourn through his own native country, probing hidden corners, obscure cultures and back roads that scribble its remote edges. Hauling a suitcase tightly stuffed with insatiable curiosity and an unapologetic sense of wonder, his travels were a cartographic wake up call to America’s rich gamut of cultures, lifestyles and occupations. A kaleidoscopic infusion of immigrant cultures and the subsequent sorting of its settlers amongst America’s diverse geography helped forge destinies for its pioneering citizens. During the evening, Guttman will present his cast of portrayed characters, often infused with a theatrical sensibility, showcasing their hard working dignity, enterprising creativity or passionate eccentricity. They may be glimpsed amongst environmental stage sets that frame their intriguing exploits, and perhaps a few will appear three dimensionally for brief remarks.
This in-person event at the Explorers Club Headquarters will include an audience Q&A.
